Gary Edward Adrian Schells, Sr., of Delmar, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born on May 21, 1939, a son of the late Robert Franklin Schells and Selma Belle Watts Schells. A proud veteran, Ed joined the Navy right out of high school and later served in the Coast Guard Reserves. After his military service, he turned his passion for connecting with people into a long career as a salesman in the auto industry, where he touched many lives along the way. Known for his love of the great outdoors, Ed spent countless hours freshwater fishing and bird watching, always appreciating the beauty of nature. He had a knack for bringing the family together, often gathered around a table playing cards and sharing laughter. For many years, he faithfully attended Nelsons Memorial Church in Hebron. Ed was a devoted family man, survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Eleanor Kay Wright Schells, and his children: Gary Schells, Jr. (Tamara), Phyllis Kemp (Curtis), Laura Schells, Gail Schlueter (Jason), and Kathy Keim (Chuck). He also cherished his role as a grandfather to Kevin Whitaker (Julia), Jacob Shouey (Emily), Adam Ross (Kelsey), Danielle Duncan (David), Tyler Shouey, Ben Keim (Sydnie), Rachel Keim, Hadley Schells, and Keva Schells. He is also survived by his four great-grandchildren, sisters, Sandy and Alice Engle (Larry), and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother Robert Watts Schells. A memorial service to celebrate a life well lived will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Nelsons Memorial Church, 200 N. Main Street, Hebron, Maryland, with a visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. In memory of Mr. Schells, contributions may be sent to Nelsons Memorial Church, P.O.
