DELMAR- Franklin A. "Sonny" Smack, 73, of Delmar, formerly of Laurel and Sharptown, died Monday, April 29, 2013 at Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 13, 1939 in Frankford, a son of the late Franklin Smack and Alma G. (Campbell) Vickers. Sonny worked many years at Kent-Sussex Industries in Milford, where he developed many lifelong friendships. He never met a stranger and made friends with people wherever he went. He was a member of Laurel Church of Christ. He enjoyed puzzles and crossword puzzles and loved old movies. He is survived by a sister, Dorothea E. McDowell of Laurel; a brother, Leland Vickers and his wife, Jackie of Kansas City; a niece, Rhonda McDowell Cipolla; and two nephews, Geoffrey Vickers and Jonathan Vickers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ronald L. McDowell; and a nephew, Ryan McDowell. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Laurel Church of Christ, 1010 S. Central Avenue, Laurel, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Interment will follow the services at Millville Cemetery in Millville, Delaware. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
