Obituary

Franklin E. Reed, 88 of Snow Hill, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 18, 2010. He was born in Hyattsville, Maryland, the son of the late Charles Thomas and Edna Grace (Soper) Reed. Mr. Reed retired as a Medical Biological Technician, specializing in animal anatomy and electron microscopy, with the National Institutes of Health after 30 years of service. His life-long dream was to own and operate a farm, and he was still making those plans up to the day he died. Mr. Reed was a member of Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Alverna Righter Reed. Mr. Reed is survived by his son, Edward F. "Pete" Reed of Snow Hill; three daughters, Linda Reed Carr of Mt. Airy, Charlene A. Reed-Mundell of Cleveland, OH, and Carol Reed Cohen of Superior, CO; one sister, Betty Frances Allnutt of Darnstown, MD; six grandchildren, Jason Reed-Mundell of Cleveland, Brandon Miller of Thurmont, MD, Lesley Forrest & husband Ryan of Hagerstown, Ethan, Aaron and Elyse Cohen of Superior, CO; and one great grandson, Brendan Miller of Thurmont. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Reed was predeceased by four sisters, Mary Virginia Reed, Annett Louise Reed, Edith Reed, and Charlotte White Reed and one brother, William Thomas Reed. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. An additional visitation will be held at the Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home in Damascus, MD, on Monday evening, March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Reed's memory to Bates Memorial United Methodist Church, c/o Lois Green, 3834 Dogwood Drive, Snow Hill, MD 21863; and the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 83, Snow Hill, MD 218 63.
