Obituary

DELMAR- Franklin Delano Hamilton, Sr., 77, of Delmar, died Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 2, 1937 in Pittsville, a son of the late Justin W. Hamilton, Sr. and Mary Jane (Dennis) Hamilton. Franklin proudly served his country in the US Army National Guard for 7 years. He was a past member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Laurel, where he served as lay leader for several years under the reign of Pastor Donald Murray. He was currently a member of Melson's United Methodist Church in Delmar where he served on the board of trustees, the nominating committee and sung in the choir. He formerly worked and managed Britt's Body Shop in Delmar for 30 years and retired from Plymouth Tube Co. in Salisbury after 21 years of service. Franklin's life revolved around his church, his family and his work. He will be remembered by many for his infectious smile, positive attitude and his "Hello Beautiful" to the ladies wherever he went. He is survived by 3 children, Franklin Hamilton, Jr. (Kelly) of Salisbury, Teresa L. Williams (Robert, Sr.) of Laurel and Richard A. Hamilton of Laurel; ten grandchildren, Bobby Williams, Jr., Alexis Hamilton, Cody Hamilton, Jason Hamilton, Randi Hamilton, Brittany Williams, Kristi Elliott, Bridgette Hamilton, Taylor Hamilton and Jordan Hamilton; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Garrett, Mackenzie, Ayden and Crew; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Joanne Brittingham Hamilton, who passed April 11, 2013; two sisters, Beulah M. West and Betty Evans; and a brother, Justin W. Hamilton, Jr. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 p.m. at Melson's United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend John Oltman will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Melson's Cemetery in Delmar. In memory of Mr. Hamilton contributions may be sent in his memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
