Frances N. Hooks, age 70, of Girdletree, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in Girdletree, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Dolly Holland Ardis. She worked for over 20 years for Holly Farms in Snow Hill. She loved being "Nanny" to Jessica Bounds for whom she cared for eleven years and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by three sons, Norman Hooks of Snow Hill, John Hooks of Girdletree and Jimmy Hooks and his wife Freda of Snow Hill; 4 grandchildren, Kachina Wells and her husband Denny Wells, Jr., Nicole Marie Hooks, Jeremy Hooks and Brandon Hooks; and 2 great grandchildren, Samantha Wells and James Michael Wells. She is also survived by a sister, Cecie Ardis of Girdletree and a brother, Calvin Chesser of Falls Church, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cortney Lynn Hooks and a brother, Louis Ardis. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 11:00 am at Springhill Cemetery in Girdletree.
