NEWARK- Frances Virginia (Cropper) Timmons, 87, of Newark, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at her home in Newark, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Newark on September 15, 1923, a daughter of the late Sidney L. and Estella Pruitt Cropper. Virginia graduated from nursing school at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury during WWII. After nursing school she enjoyed many years working as a nurse with Dr. LaMar in Snow Hill. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Newark where she served in various capacities through the years. She also served on the Worcester County Library Board, was an avid supporter of Queponco Railroad station revitalization and worked with the American Field Service, assisting foreign exchange students. She loved her family, liked to travel, and liked the arts, playing cards and golf. She is survived by 4 children, John C. Timmons and his wife, Linda of Snow Hill, Gerald L. Timmons and his wife, Melissa of Newark, J. Douglas Timmons of Murfreesboro, TN and Ann T. Hill and her husband, John of Princess Anne; 7 grandchildren, Stacey Phillips and her husband, Jeff of Salisbury, Troy L. Timmons of Port St. Lucie, FL, Clint Timmons of Newark, Dawn Timmons of Abingdon, MD, Kevin Timmons and his wife, Becky of Newark, Pamela Patey of Salisbury and Andrea Patey of Salisbury; 4 great grandchildren, Lily Timmons, Logan Phillips, Austin Phillips and Ryan Timmons; a brother, S. Sidney Cropper; and a sister, Charlotte Serman. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Timmons, who passed in 1985, a sister, Pauline C. Bounds and a brother, William G. Cropper. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Newark, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00. The Reverend Sherwood McGrath will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Trinity Garden of Memories.
