Obituary

DELMAR- Florida Lea Sullivan, 81, of Delmar, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at her home in Delmar. She was born December 12, 1932 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late Clarence and Iva (Phippin) Williams. In her younger days, Mrs. Sullivan worked as a cashier at Banks Market. She then took a position at Salisbury Nursing Home, where she enjoyed caring for and interacting with the residents there so much that she became an in-home healthcare assistant and worked for many years as a sitter for various elderly patients. Florida loved the outdoors and as a life member of AMSA loved to fish. She enjoyed the beach and was known for her lighthouse collection. She also loved baseball and was a serious O's fan. She was an excellent cook and baker, and will be missed by many for her wet cornbread and German chocolate cake recipes. She really looked forward to the annual Sullivan Family Reunion, held each year in October, where she would prepare several of her well-known desserts and dishes. Her true passion was her family and she was always there to help her children and grandchildren and even helped raise 2 great grandchildren from the time of their birth. She is survived by a daughter, Iva L. Sullivan Callis of Delmar; grandchildren, Robert L. Callis, II (Eleanor), David James Callis (Sarah), Ashley Nicole Callis, David William Sullivan, III, Katie Irene Sullivan, Rodney Sullivan (Kelly), Brent Sullivan (Heather), Bobbi Lynn Deasey, Donna Deasey and Anthony Deasey; many great grandchildren, including Florida Jean Callis, her namesake; and 3 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Williams, Jane Sullivan and Helen Sullivan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and 2 close friends, Donna Jacobs-Jones and Rick Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David "Peanut" William Sullivan, Sr., who passed in 1993; a son, David William Sullivan, Jr., who passed in 1996; a daughter, Brenda Sullivan, who passed in 2013; a sister, Norma Fae Sammons; and a brother, Victor Williams. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00. Pastor John Merritt will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 4171, Salisbury, MD 21803.
