DELMAR- Florence A. Brittingham, 86, of Delmar, died Monday, May 16, 2016 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born May 24, 1929 in Worcester County, a daughter of the late Ray and Grace (Dennis) Phillips. Florence worked as a poultry grower for many years, alongside of her late husband on the family farm. She was a member of the Salisbury Baptist Temple and had an undying love for her Lord Jesus. Her life revolved around her family and she cherished times spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her butterbeans and corn dumplings. She enjoyed reading, collecting coins and cross-stitching. She is survived by her children, Phyllis A. LeCates (Gardner) of Laurel, Ruth E. Wilkerson (Jerry) of Delmar, Suzanne Nichols (Dickie) of Delmar, Rebecca J. Conley (Curt) of Harrington, David W. Brittingham (Donna) of Delmar and Kelly E. Merritt (John H., Jr. ) of Delmar; eighteen grandchildren, Daniel LeCates, Melanie LeCates, Dawn Walker, Michelle Plummer, Angela Greenwalt, Grace Malone, Jimmy Nichols, Amy Hyson, Rachel Hanson, Matthew Conley, Deborah Ringler, Leah Conley, Heather Cooper, Laura Shores, John H. Merritt, III, Joshua Merritt, Lauren Tingle and Joel Merritt; twenty-five great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Oliver Phillips; sisters, Iva Basil and June Brumbley (Wayne); and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Davis. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband. Wilmer L. Brittingham, who passed in 1992; two infant sons, Wilmer A. Brittingham and Steve Anthony Brittingham; and brothers, Franklin, Dallas and Vaughn Phillips. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Pastor Carlo Leto and David Brittingham will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
