Evelyn M. Gordy, 99, of Salisbury, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Delmar Manor. She was born on June 10, 1917 in Baltimore, a daughter of the late Talbot and Carrie Taylor. We must now say farewell to a lady who was always spry for her age, who woke up most days happy, who loved to dance, sing, and be the center of attention, a lady we called mom and mom-mom. She was 99 years old and though dementia had claimed her, it was a blessing she wasn't in severe pain or bedridden to the end. We will continue to remember all the best Gordy stories and know that she is now whole again, singing, dancing, ripping n' raring, and being ornery. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Jennette and her husband Bob of Delmar; and a son, Jesse R. Eskridge, Jr. and his wife April of Georgetown; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Gordy and a daughter, Joan Freeman. Services will be private. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
