Eudine M. Vickers, 95, of Galestown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake after a brief stay. She was born on July 20, 1927 in Tifton, Georgia, a daughter of the late George W. Montgomery and Sallie (Yawn) Montgomery. Eudine married John E. Vickers on June 6, 1947, and together they raised their family and enjoyed over 33 years of marriage until he passed in 1980. She retired after many years as a personnel manager for the Guida Clothing Company in Milford. After retirement, she found great joy as a caregiver for several elderly friends who she loved like her own family. She was very active in her community and served several terms as Mayor and Treasurer of Galestown, was a past member of the Sharptown Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, an active member of the Galestown Ruritan Club and a member of Galestown United Methodist Church. Eudine will be remembered as a wonderful cook and her family will certainly miss her beef and dumplings. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and sister. She is survived by children, George A. Vickers (Marie), Brenda S. Ruark (Kenny), James "Duke" C. Vickers (Peggy), John Darryl Vickers (Lisa); 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Imogene Bridges; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Curtis G. Vickers; siblings, Edward Montgomery, Glen Montgomery, Wayne Montgomery and Jackie Collison. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service which begins at 11:00. The Reverend David Bennett will officiate. Interment will follow in Galestown Cemetery.
