Obituary

Ethel Mae Mariner, 76, of Snow Hill passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Delmar Manor. She was born on May l7, 1944 in Cedartown, near Snow Hill. Ethel was a member of Olivet Christian Church in Snow Hill. She was a wonderful cook and served the Snow Hill Lions Club by helping with monthly Monday dinners and baking for their fundraisers and bake sales. Ethel was well known for her cakes and proudly made many birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her son, Orlando H. "Mike" Mariner, III and his wife April of Snow Hill; grandson, Jesse Mariner; a sister, Mary Ann Melson; sister-in-law, Debbie Shortt; a nephew, Robert Franklin; a niece, Carol Franklin Hudson; and many more nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Orlando Harrison Mariner, Jr.; her mother, Frances Dickel Shortt; father, Jesse Shortt; step-mother, Kathleen Watson; grandparents, John and Margaret Dickel, and Thomas and Ella Shortt; brothers, Jesse Jr., Baby Boy Shortt, Jesse Shortt, and Gary Shortt; sisters, Barbara Carey and Nancy Franklin; and a brother-in-law, Al Melson. Services will be private. In memory of Mrs. Mariner, contributions may be sent to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 83, Snow Hill, MD 21863, or to the Snow Hill Lions Club, P.O. Box 82, Snow Hill, MD 21863. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
