Ernest Franklin Bowden, 90, of Parsonsburg passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury. He was born on September 4, 1932 in Salisbury, Maryland a son of the late Thomas and Marie Layfield Bowden. Mr. Bowden's strong work ethic started when he was young and served him well throughout his life. He proudly served his country for twenty years in the U.S. Army before working for the railroad for another twenty years. He also worked selling promotional items and at the Swiss Colony store at the old Salisbury Mall. He loved to spend time in his garden and took pride in his yard. He loved spending time with his family and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. Morning coffee club each day with friends was a favorite, where he would chat about the current events of the day. He is survived by his wife, Jean Boughman Bowden; children, Glenda June Shrieves (Herbert), Gary Ernest Bowden (Joan), Dennis Eugene Bowden (Gwen), and Carol Denise Dent (Curtis); stepson, Tony Boughman; grandchildren, Ernie Shrieves, Becky Bowden, Emily Tedore (Adam), Jared Bowden, Lindsay Daniels (Grant), Ryan Bowden, Christopher Dent (Becky), and Catrina Hernandez (Michael); great grandchildren, Skye Shrieves, Brianna Shrieves, Zachary Dozier, Delpha Daniels, Morgan Dent, Daemyn Dent, Colby Hernandez, and Madison Hernandez; brother, Roland Bowden (Joyce); sisters, Nettie Timmons and Carrie Bradford; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Delpha Doris (Turner) Bowden; son, Robert Thomas Bowden granddaughter, Jamie Dent; and two brothers and seven sisters. A funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
