Emma Hantwerker Phillips, 91, of Selbyville died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Millsboro. She was born March 20, 1920 in Delmar, the daughter of the late Adolph Edward Hantwerker and Edna Cahall Hantwerker. She was raised in Delmar and graduated from Delmar High School. Following high school she attended college for a couple of years before moving to Baltimore to work in the payroll department for the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, a job she held for many years. After relocating to Selbyville she became an active member of St. Matthews By-The-Sea United Methodist Church in Fenwick. Emma had an appreciation for the arts and was a wonderful painter and art collector. She enjoyed time spent with her family and friends and belonged to the Fenwick Women's Club and the Keenwick Women's Club after retirement. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Clyde Wright Phillips and Kathleen Phillips of Stevensville, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Margie Phillips of Delmar; and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Wright Phillips, who passed in December, 2010, and a brother, Clyde Adolph Hantwerker. A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 12:00 noon at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. The Reverend Bruce Miller will officiate.
