Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Emma Grace Carey, 11, who left us on Friday, September 6, 2024, at her home in Harrington, Delaware, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 30, 2013, in Salisbury, Maryland, Emma Grace was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, and friend to many. Emma Grace was known for her love of Cra-Z-Art crayons and coloring books, which she enjoyed using to create beautiful works of art. She had a passion for country music, with Cody Johnson, Jelly Roll, George Strait, and Morgan Wallen being among her favorite artists. In her spare time, she could often be found watching her favorite movies, including Finding Nemo, Frozen, and Home Alone. Throughout her life, Emma Grace displayed immense strength and resilience, bravely navigating various health challenges. Her determination and courage served as an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by her mother and step father, Brandi Carey and Blair Young; father, John Michael Adkins; brothers, Brayden Adkins and Kohen Young; step-brother, Creek Young; step-sister, Jessalyn Young; grandparents, Lisa Naugle (Keith), David Carey (Kim), and Sara Adkins; great grandparents, Norman and Margaret Carey, Richard Morris, and Paul Adkins; uncles, Blair Carey (Sara), Russell Adkins and Peyton Naugle; and an aunt, Hailey Naugle. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. She is preceded in death by her great grandmothers; Alice Adkins, Ruth Morris; and an aunt, Faith Adkins. The funeral service to honor Emma Grace's memory will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Overflow seating and livestream will be available at the Delmar Fire Department. Let us remember Emma with love and celebrate the joy and light she brought to all who knew her. She will forever remain in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to support Child Life services for oncology patients at Nemours Children's Health.
