Elvira T. Grzanka, 96, formerly of Queens, New York, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Delmar Estates Assisted Living in Delmar, Maryland, after a short stay. She was born June 4, 1926, in Elmhurst, New York, a daughter of the late Alfred Berna and Anna (Duffy) Berna. In her younger days Elvira "Vera" worked as a fashion model before getting married and settling down to raise her family. She then enjoyed a very successful career of over 43 years in sales at Wallach's, a popular men's haberdashery on Fifth Avenue in New York City. She is survived by a daughter, Dean Ann Collier and husband Paul of Delmar, formerly of Fairfax, Virginia; a son, Dennis Grzanka and wife Carol of Louisville, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Collier; and many nieces and nephews living on Long Island, New York. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley A. Grzanka; and siblings, Marietta Cirigliano (Caesar), Rose Berna, Vincent (Dorothy), Gloria Zuba (Thaddeus), and Alfred (Christine). Burial alongside of her late husband in Long Island National Cemetery in New York will be at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
