Elmira B. Swain, 75, of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 31, 2021, at TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford. She was born February 3, 1946, in Salisbury, a daughter of the late Walter Lee Brittingham and Bertha Birch Brittingham. Elmira graduated from Stephen Decatur High school in Berlin. In her younger days, she was an active member of Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville. For many years she owned and operated Elmira's Hair Salon in Bridgeville where she had a long, fulfilling career as a hair stylist and salon owner. She was a wonderful cook and baker and shared that passion with her granddaughter, Emmalyn. They spent many hours together baking cookies, doing each other's nails, or just enjoying family dinners together. She will be remembered as a most loving mother, grandmother, and close friend to many of her clients. She is survived by sons, Keith E. Swain and wife, Belinda of Winnetka, Illinois and Brian M. Swain and wife, Halie of Bridgeville; a granddaughter, the apple of her eye, Emmalyn Swain; grandsons, Nolan and Mason Swain; a special aunt, Verta Hammond; and close friends, who were like sisters to her, Astrid Swain, Alma Fleetwood, Carolyn Tyson, Doris Trice and Eleanor Terrell. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Bay Street in Berlin. The Reverend Tim Dukes will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Union United Methodist Church, 2 N Laws St, Bridgeville, DE 19933.
