Obituary

LAUREL- Ellen Louise "Granny" Schaub, 76, of Laurel, formerly of Hartly, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. She was born March 31, 1934 in Baltimore, a daughter of the late Laura V. (Gilpin) Haymire and Henry D. Haymire. Granny, as most people knew her, enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles, watching the birds in the yard, the Baltimore Orioles and harness racing. Her favorite horse was "Rainbow Blue." Prior to her death she thoroughly enjoyed her work as a security officer for Harrington Racetrack, a job she loved for over 7 years. Granny will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by sons, William J. Gartrell, IV and wife, Jackie of Florida, James Gartrell and wife Janice of Dover, Robert Schaub and wife, Nora of Delmar and Martin Schaub, 3rd and wife, Angel of New York; daughters, Donna Gartrell Snyder of Laurel, Laura Moore and her companion, Jethro York of Laurel and Naomi Steele and husband, Brett of Hartly; seventeen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren, and three expected to be born very soon; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a dear friend, who she considered a son, Leroy Downin of Laurel; and her special "children": her dog "Gretchen", cat "Sabreena" and bird "Buddy." She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin L. "Sonny" Schaub, Jr. and a great grandson, Paul "Peanut" North, IV. A graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Bloomery Cemetery in Federalsburg. The Reverend Howard Travers will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions to be sent to Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, DE 19940 to help with funeral expenses.
