Elizabeth Louise Sparrow, 92, of Delmar, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, July 16, 2017. She was born on June 17, 1925, a daughter of the late Raymond and Iva Smith. Mrs. Sparrow was a loving mother and a devoted wife to her husband of 62 years, George W. Sparrow, Jr. Through the years, she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and great grandchildren. In years past, she could be found helping her husband with organic gardening. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Delmar and a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary Delmar VFW Post 8276. She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Michelsen (Edward), and Beth R. Wilson, all of Delmar; a granddaughter, Melissa Scarborough (Robert III); great grandchildren, Stephanie, Michaela, Brianna, Tori, Bradley, and Rachel; a great-great grandson, Oliver Anthony Scarborough; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George W. Sparrow, Jr.; sisters, Doris Twilley and Charlene Hearn; and a brother, Kendall "OK" Smith. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Dean Perdue will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery Park in Delmar. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Delmar Fire Department paramedics and the Sussex County paramedics for the special care they showed when responding to her home, as well as, the Delmar VFW Ladies Auxiliary for hosting the fellowship meal.
