Obituary

DELMAR- Elizabeth LeCates Adkins, 96, of Delmar, currently a resident of Manokin Manor Nursing Home in Princess Anne, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Manokin Manor. She was born on November 5, 1913 in Seaford, a daughter of the late Baxter and Lenora Polight LeCates. Mrs. Adkins retired after many years of service as a bookkeeper for Peninsula Adjusting Co. in Salisbury. She was a long time member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar and was always very active with the United Methodist Women's group. She was also a long time, active member of the Delmar Lions Club. She loved doing handiwork, especially knitting and crocheting and was an excellent cook. She was well known around Delmar for making chocolate Easter eggs for St. Stephen's Church for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Eleanor "Ellie" Lewis Rebert and her husband, Jack of Salisbury and Earlene Coulbourne and her husband, Bob of Marion; two grandchildren, Kim Oates and her husband Larry of Quakertown, Pennsylvania and Shawn Coirin of Delmar; four great grandchildren, Allison, Tyler, Christian and Zakary; a stepdaughter, JoAnn Martin and her husband, Bob of Laurel; three step grandchildren, Michael, Tye and Wade; a sister, Viola Breland of Walterboro, SC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, William R. Adkins, four brothers and a sister. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. Minister Philip Pruitt will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Manokin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 11974 Edgehill Terrace, Princess Anne, MD 21853, Delmar Lions Club, P.O. Box 331, Delmar, DE 19940, or St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 101 E. State Street, Delmar, DE 19940. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
