DELMAR- Elijah Franklin Gordy, 88, of Delmar, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 17, 1928 in Delmar, a son of the late Joshua Dawson Gordy and Edith Bowden Gordy. He was married to the late Jeanette Windsor Gordy, who died in September 2015, to whom he was married for a wonderful 65 years. Elijah farmed most of his life and loved working in the fields until he reached the age where he was no longer able. He was a founder and the first charter member of the Bi-State Ruritan Club and proudly earned a 35 year perfect attendance award. In the 1970's he was actively involved in the Mar-Del Tractor Pullers Association. He was an avid baseball fan and followed the Orioles for many years and also enjoyed watching professional wrestling. He will be remembered as a true family man and did whatever it took to care for and provide for his wife, children and grandchildren. He is survived by daughters, Barbara Gordy Dennis and husband, William of Salisbury, Charlotte Louise Hastings and husband, Greg of Millsboro and Vickie Leigh Nelson and partner, Richard Crumbacker of Crisfield; a son, Mark Franklin Gordy and wife, Lisa of Delmar; grandchildren, Rodney Sullivan (Kelly), Brent Sullivan, Jason Hastings (Shante`), Aaron Dennis (Sarah), Jonathan Hastings (Jessica), Rachel Colby (Henry), Sarah Mister (Woody), Josh Nelson, Matthew Gordy (Ashley) and Meghan Gordy; great grandchildren, Jared, Grant, Colleen, Amanda, Camryn, Tori, Khloe, Lilly, Maya, Alex, Cason, Parker, Dallas, Dillon, Sophie and Daisy; a sister-in-law, Amelia Gordy; and close friends, Ralph and Josephine Dorey. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Gordy; and brothers, Havard, Oscar and Robert Gordy. Visitation times for Mr. Gordy will be Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm and Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service which begins at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Roland Tice will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Line Church Cemetery.
