Eleanore Elizabeth Duncan, 74, of Pittsville passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Germany on August 11, 1948, a daughter of the late Robert Cannon and Catherine Cabri. In her younger years, she attended the Salvation Army Church. Eleanore worked as a cashier at the Wal-Mart in Berlin for 18 years, a job she truly enjoyed. She was known as the cashier with the longest line. The customers always wanted to visit with her while checking out, and didn't mind waiting for her. Most importantly, she had a close knit family who she loved spending time with. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy E. Caruso (Donnie Meadows); grandchildren, Allison Caruso and Elizabeth Morris; great grandchildren, Alexis Layfield, Jasmine Layfield, Troy Morris, Kolbi White and Colton White; and a great-great granddaughter, Winnie Layfield Bowen. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, and she spoiled all of them. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Catherine and Carl Krueger; father and stepmother, Robert and Cathryn Mae Cannon; loving companion, William Toft; sister, Monica Mears; brother, John Cannon; mother-in-law, Gloria B. Wilson; and father-in-law, Earl E. Wilson, Sr. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. The Reverend Susannah DeBenedetto will officiate. Entombment will follow the service in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
