Obituary

Edward Allen Baker, 71, of Sharptown, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 8, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 25, 1942 in Sharptown, a son of the late Allen W. and Mabel E. Baker. Ed retired in 1991 as a supervisor at the DuPont Co. in Seaford after 31 years. He was a long time member of Nelson's United Methodist Church in Hebron and a member of the Adkins Historical Society of Mardela. After retirement he set out to build his own workboat, which was a lifelong dream for him. He loved working on the water, whether he was fishing, crabbing or oystering. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife, classic country music and most importantly, spending fun times with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of close to 50 years, Judith S. Baker; a son, Shawn Baker (Dana); three daughters, Dawn Fox (Jim), Shannon Kowalski (Jeff) and Dana Lynerd (Rich); 11 grandchildren, Kaity, Taylor & Ethan Baker, Jimmy, Jordan & Jessie Fox, Mackenzie, Noah & Ryan Kowalski and Delaney & Braylon Lynerd; a brother, Gary Baker (Joy); and a sister, Edna Griffith (Richard). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Christine Lynn Baker. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Nelson's United Methodist Church in Hebron, where family and friends may call from 2:00 to 3:00. The Reverend Jim Fox, son-in-law, will officiate. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802--1733. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
