Obituary

After 98 remarkable years, Edna Marie Silvia of Sharptown, MD passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026.

Born October 31, 1927, in Salisbury, MD, Edna was the daughter of the late Harry G. Fletcher and Lottie Walker Fletcher. Except for an 11-year stay in Crisfield, MD, she spent her entire life in Sharptown where generations came to know and love her.

Edna was a seamstress by trade working for many years at the shirt factories in Sharptown and later at the Manhattan Shirt Factory in Salisbury. She also worked for the Rubberset Plant in Crisfield. A talented and hardworking woman, Edna took great pride in everything she did.

At home, she was a devoted homemaker who found happiness in caring for the people she loved. She thoroughly enjoyed ironing for family and close friends. Some of her family favorites from the kitchen were her holiday dressing, potato salad and applesauce cakes.

Edna had a heart for her community and believed deeply in serving others. For more than 65 years, she faithfully served as a lifetime member of the Sharptown Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of OES Roelma Lodge beginning in 1960 and a charter member of the Sharptown American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 218. She was also an active member of the Sharptown Historical Society helping preserve the history and traditions of the town she loved so dearly. Her community recognized that devotion when she was honored to serve as Grand Marshal of Sharptown's Heritage Day Parade. Her strong faith was reflected in her lifetime membership at Mt. Vernon Church in Sharptown where she was a treasured member of the congregation.

Few things brought Edna as much joy as the Sharptown Carnival. For many years, she could be found in the cook tent serving hot dogs and sharing smiles, laughter, and conversation with carnival-goers. To countless people, she simply became known as the beloved "Hot Dog Lady."

Edna also loved being outdoors. No matter how hot the summer day might be, she could often be found working in her yard.As the oldest surviving citizen of Sharptown, Edna represented a remarkable connection to the town's history. She watched Sharptown change through the decades while remaining a familiar and admired presence within it.Those who knew Edna will remember her kindness and generosity, her dedication to family and community and of course her unmistakable sassy spirit.

Above all else, Edna's greatest legacy was her family that she loved and cherished so deeply. She took great pride in her titles Mom-Mom and GG. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Gosnell and her husband Doug and Sandra Silvia, both of Sharptown; grandchildren, Eric Gosnell and his wife Chrystianna and Lorie Hovatter and her husband David; great-grandchildren, Trevor Gosnell (Jacob), Hailey Naugle (Andrew), Peyton Naugle, and Kayla Middleton (Joshua); great-great-grandchildren, Palmer and Barrett Vance; sister-in-law, Jackie Eberts (Greg); and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Thomas "Eddie" Silvia, who passed away in 1995; her grandson, Darren Gosnell; and her siblings Thomas Fletcher, Una Bradd, Herman Fletcher, Ted Fletcher, Ned Fletcher and Inez Cordrey.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Church in Sharptown. An Order of the Eastern Star service will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service officiated by Pastor David Bennett. Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Edna's memory to: Sharptown Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 315, Sharptown, MD 21861 or Mt. Vernon Church, P.O. Box 203, Sharptown, MD 21861

Edna leaves behind precious memories and a legacy built through nearly a century of family, faith, friendship, hard work, laughter, and service to others.

For those who loved her, there will always be reminders of Edna-during a family meal, a freshly ironed shirt, a summer afternoon in the yard, the sounds of the Sharptown Carnival and the community she served so faithfully. Her chair may now be empty, but the love she gave so freely remains. A life so beautifully lived. Forever loved. Forever remembered.
