It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith "Edie" Marie Mergler, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us on Monday, September 28, 2026. Born on February 2, 1964, in Erie, PA, Edith lived a beautiful life marked by kindness, creativity, and unwavering love for her family.
Edith was a proud graduate of Bennett High School, Class of 1982, and dedicated over 20 years of her life working in various roles at Residence Inn Marriott in Salisbury, where her vibrant spirit and bubbly personality left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was known for her kind-hearted nature, generosity, and thoughtfulness, traits that made her a beloved figure in her community. As an artistic soul, she expressed her creativity in various ways, bringing joy and inspiration to those around her.
She cherished her roles as a mother and even more so as grandmother, finding immense joy in spending time with her daughters, Kimberly and Tara, as well as her grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by her lifelong partner, the late Jeffrey Hopkins Jr. with whom she shared a deep and loving bond. She is also preceded in death by both of her parents Marie Taylor and Edward Mergler as well as a brother, Richard A. Stoakley and her beloved Chihuahua "Puppy".
Edith is survived by her loving daughters, Kimberly Marie Thompson (Brandon) and Tara Lynn Hopkins (Cesar Cubias); step-son, Steven Hopkins (Megan); five beloved grandchildren; her devoted sisters, Linda Moore (Mickey), Susan Bell, and Anna Cooke (Ted); her beloved brother, Lynn Burse; and a host of extended nieces, nephews and family and friends who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of Edith's life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together to share cherished memories and stories that honor her spirit.
