Douglas H. Hampshire, Sr., 69, of Salisbury, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Doug joined Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company No.2 in August 1976 and through the years he rose through the ranks of firefighter/EMT to assistant chief. He retired from the fire service on March 1, 2009. Doug actively served the community of Salisbury and surrounding areas for 33 years. Doug worked with his father and brother-in-law as a registered professional land surveyor for 34 years. He enjoyed playing softball in his early years with the firemen's league, bowling, golfing, photography, and fishing. Most importantly he enjoyed the time spent with his family. He proudly served the Lord and was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Salisbury. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, LuAnne Hampshire; children, Cathy L. Hampshire (Matt) of Hebron, Douglas "DJ" H. Hampshire, Jr. (Jenn) of Pittsburgh, and Nicholas L. Hampshire (Samantha) of Salisbury; grandchildren, Mallory Brimer, Mason Layne, Mitchel Layne, Angelique Hampshire, Kaedyn Hampshire, Kendyl Hampshire, Bailee Hampshire, Dallas Hampshire; great grandchildren, Raelyn Alton and Ryder Alton; sister, Lynda Andrews (John) of Salisbury; niece, Lesley Wolfe (Shannon) of Salisbury; Allison Wolfe; Jacob Wolfe; nephew, Jason Andrews (Penelope) of Salisbury; sister-in-law, Jody Reikard (Rob); niece, Makenzie (Tyler); and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Whayland Hampshire and father, Harold Wallace Hampshire. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday, July 17, 2023, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. The Reverend Gary Tulak will officiate. Following the service, everyone is welcome to join the family at the Delmar Fire Department for a time of food and fellowship.
