Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dortha Kinnikin Shupe, age 79, who passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at her home in Delmar surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 23, 1946, in Sharptown on her family's farm, Dortha was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Dortha dedicated over 40 years of her life to her work, serving as an analytical lab coordinator in the poultry industry at Perdue Farms, where she was respected and cherished by her colleagues. Dortha's greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted mother to her three children: Connie Rae Hurley, Ronald D. Shupe and his wife Judith, and Eric P. Shupe and his wife Jennifer. She treasured her role as a grandmother to Jamie Lewis (Lisa), Austin Hurley (Jessie), Kylene Shupe, Jason Jones (Jessica), Garrett Shupe, and Gavin Shupe. Additionally, she was a proud great-grandmother to Noah, Andrew, Skylar, Raelyn, Koleson, Karson, Brody, Mason and Finley, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. Her family meant everything to her, and she often expressed that the more, the merrier when it came to gathering loved ones around her table. Known for her exquisite cooking and baking, Dortha delighted many with her famous dumplings and carrot cake, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Dortha had the kindest heart of anyone, and her loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Dortha's love for her family was unwavering, and they always came first in her life. Her legacy of love and warmth will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Paul Kinnikin and Agnes Mary (Massey) Kinnikin; sister, Lida Horne (Leonard); and brother, Floyd Massey (Barbara). A funeral service to honor Dortha's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Following the service, Dortha will be laid to rest at Melsons Cemetery in Delmar, Maryland. A time of gathering for a luncheon and fellowship will follow at Melsons Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be given to Coastal Hospice, P.O.
