Obituary

Dortha Tull Hess, 88, of Newark, Maryland, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury. Born in Newark, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Katherine (Bounds) Tull. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert L. Hess on April 12, 1985; a brother, Charles E. Tull of Ocean Pines; and a niece, Mary Lou Phillips of Salisbury. Dot was a graduate of Snow Hill High School, Class of 1938. She worked as a clerk and mail carrier at the Newark Post Office in the early 1960's. She was the secretary for Ralph L. Mason, Inc. a canning company in Newark for over 30 years. She was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Newark and was a member of the choir for over 40 years. She is survived by a niece and her husband, Charlotte A. and Charles W. Smith of Green Cove Springs, Florida; a nephew, Thomas A. Phillips of Salisbury; a great niece, Leigh Collings of Hebron; and a niece, Pat Sheppard of Bridgeton, New Jersey. Several nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive her. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Newark. The Reverend Shirley Evans will officiate. Interment will follow at Trinity Garden of Memories, the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Newark Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 82, Newark, MD 21841, or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780. Arrangements are being handled by Short Funeral Home of Delmar.
