SALISBURY- Dorothy Jones Hudson, 95 years old, of Salisbury passed away peacefully on July 18, 2016 at her home in Salisbury. She was born April 12, 1921 in Marion, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Mark Marion Harper and Margaret Maude (Hayes) Harper. Dorothy will be remembered as an adventurous woman. She spent her early days growing up on the family farm in South Carolina. She met and married her first husband Edwin Jones in Charleston SC, and moved across the country to Santa Barbara California, where he was from. After his death in 1951 she lived in California for several years before returning to South Carolina to help her parents on the farm. During that year she met her second husband Raymond (Ray) Hudson from Philadelphia at the 1958 USS Phoenix reunion. They married in California the next year and lived in Philadelphia. They had one son Richard (Rick) in 1960. They moved to Parsonsburg in 1973 where they owned a farm and raised chickens for Golden Pride. In 1980 they moved to Salisbury where they were owners of Shockley's Wallpaper and Paint for many years. Ray & Dorothy owned property in Ocean City from where they loved to go boating, fishing and clamming. Ray and Dorothy were long time, active members of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury. In retirement they loved to travel and when home she loved caring for her flower and vegetable gardens. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, and her dear friend and caretaker Sharon Bloxom. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin, her second husband, Ray, her son, Rick and seven brothers & sisters. A memorial service will be held to honor her life on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury.
