It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy Hudson on August 11, 2026 in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Dorothy was born in Eden, Maryland to parents Clifton and Hazel (Bozman) Furbush on February 15, 1932.

Dorothy, known to most simply as Dot, built her life in Salisbury, graduating from Wicomico High School with the Class of 1950. Dot had a great work ethic, first working for Nathan’s Furniture Store, and then taking on the rolls of Office Manager, Bookkeeper, Dispatcher, and Receptionist in the family-owned HVAC business run by she and her first husband.

Dot loved the Eastern Shore of Maryland and enjoyed its splendor and vast resources. In her spare time, she enjoyed boating, crabbing (from net to the table), camping (motorhome style), cruising, shopping, and an occasional trip to a casino; Dot just loved to travel. She was an avid duck-pin bowler for as long as duck pin bowling was in Salisbury. Whenever she had an evening free, she could frequently be found watching TV and crocheting or working needlepoint. The beautiful afghans and needlework she completed were lovingly shared with family and friends. Dot was a Lifetime Member of Salisbury Moose Lodge 654 and Women of the Moose Salisbury Chapter 1208. Through her 50-plus years of involvement with this organization she held numerous offices, to include Chairman, College of Regents.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Samuel J. Hudson, her first husband, and father of her daughter, William “Bill” Godfrey, her daughter Donna Lynn Godfrey-Rathel, her son-in-law Charles Eugene “Gene” Rathel, her sister Peggy Jean Bloom, her brother Russell Lee Furbush, and her niece Linda Blevins Christensen.

Left to cherish her memory are her niece Sharon Marchesani Gordon (Jim) of Hendersonville, North Carolina and her cousin Ed Fitzgerald (Elaine) of Austin, Texas. In addition, fond memories will be carried by the many friends and neighbors Dot has made over the years.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 2PM at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury, Maryland.
