Obituary

SNOW HILL-Doris Pruitt Donoway, 87, of Snow Hill, died Sunday, August 19, 2012 at her home in Snow Hill. She was born January 17, 1925 in Berlin, a daughter of the late Howard S. Pruitt and Dorothy Quillen Pruitt. Doris worked for various companies in accounting and bookkeeping and retired after many years of service from J.W. Shockley & Sons, Inc. in Snow Hill. She was a member of Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. She will be remembered as a woman with a fantastic sense of humor who cherished times spent with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Over the years she sent hundreds of notes and cards to family and friends which exhibited her fine handwriting. She was also very handy with her canvas work and enjoyed Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Nature was her passion as she loved her hummingbird feeder and the outdoors. She is survived by a son, Ronald R. Russell and his wife, Laura Vernon-Russell of Baltimore; 3 daughters, Reverend Olivia Costango of Mt. Vernon, MD, Rose Donoway and her husband, Larry of Snow Hill and Connie Hill of Salisbury; 2 step-daughters, Debbie Smith and her husband, Dave of Salisbury and Joanne Sylvester and her husband, Russell of Snow Hill; 6 grandchildren, Aaron Russell and his wife, Miyoko, Micah Russell, Mark Donoway and his wife, Katie, Keith Donoway and his wife, Jenny, Adam Hill and Matthew Hill and his wife, Helena; 6 great grandchildren, Colleen, Joey, Lily, Graham, Eve and Libby; a step-grandson, Shawn Smith; 2 sisters, Dot Hudson and Jerry Mitchell and her husband, Harry; and a brother, Dale Pruitt and his wife, Linda. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Jackson Donoway, who passed in 2005; a grandson, Jeremy Hill; a step-son, Jerome Jackson Donoway, Jr.; 2 sisters, Mabel Rhodes and June Livingston; and 2 brothers, Howard T. Pruitt and Jack Pruitt. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill, where family and friends may call from 12:00 to 1:00. The Reverend Tina Whaley will officiate. Interment will follow at Trinity Garden of Memories in Newark. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Bates Memorial United Methodist Church, c/o Debra Hambrick, 402 S. Morris Street, Snow Hill, MD 21863.
