Donald Edward Smart, 82, went to his eternal home on Sunday, March 22, 2026 where he had been a resident of Bay Harbor Nursing Facility in Salisbury for several weeks. He was born in Delaware on June 27, 1943, a son of Roland and Mary Smart. 

Donald worked various jobs including carpentry, masonry and working on the family farm. He enjoyed talking about classic cars, watching football and his favorite TV show, Gunsmoke.

He is survived by his son, David (Zina), granddaughter, Selena; brothers, Melvin, Russell and Frankie; sisters, Pat Messick (Bill) and Thelma Johnson (Richard); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Janet Smart; brothers, Roland Jr. and Milton; and sisters, Libby Figgs and Pauline Pully.

 A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 4:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, 501 Bi-State Blvd, Delmar, Maryland.

Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
