It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald "Donnie" Leroy Lewis Jr., 62, who went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on July 24, 1963, in Salisbury, MD, Donnie was a beloved son, brother, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone around him. A graduate of Mardela High School with the Class of 1981, Donnie enjoyed a fruitful career as a line supervisor for Perdue, dedicating many years to the poultry industry. His passion for language led him to take a keen interest in Haitian Creole, and he served as an interpreter for several years, bridging gaps and fostering communication in his community. Donnie had a special place in his heart for cats and was always looking out for the needs of others. He was known for his excellent cooking skills and enjoyed dining at favorite local establishments, including Sister Caribbean in Milford and Acorn Market in Salisbury. His joyful spirit remained unwavering, regardless of circumstances, and he found happiness in the simplest of pleasures, including his love for movies and television. Some of his favorite films were Titanic, It's a Wonderful Life, The Color Purple, and The Green Mile, while he loved tuning into shows like Law & Order, the American Music Awards, and the annual classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. An avid reader, he had a particular interest in cancer research, always seeking to learn and share knowledge. He also loved the beach and spending time at the Cove in Bivalve MD. Donnie is survived by his father, Donald Leroy Lewis, Sr. and stepmother, Deborah; sisters, Sherry Patterson and husband David, Bambi Marie Lewis Short and Nicole Kelley; step sister, Patricia McMinn and husband, Paul; step brother, James William Truono, Jr.; several aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory and the love he gave so freely. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Ann Williams Kelley and stepfather Raymond Kelley. Also preceding him in death were his grandparents, Lillian Edna Lewis, Leroy Lewis , Viola Williams and George Williams, Charles L. Conaway and Patricia Vitalo and Phillip Vitalo. Funeral services for Donnie will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the rental offices of the Brandywine Village Apartments,600 Case Ln, Millsboro, DE 19966, where parking can be found at Millsboro Town Hall which is across the street.
