He was a lifetime member of Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill and a 25-year volunteer in the Emergency Room at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. His survivors include his daughters, Catherine Godfrey and husband, Martin Taillefer of Redmond, Washington; Dana Godfrey Powers and husband, Ty of Durham, North Carolina; Sue Godfrey Pena and husband, Pete of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren Matthew Mitchell, Ella Taillefer, Alex Taillefer, Tyler Powers, and Rin Powers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Tomi Godfrey, his wife of 61 years, brothers William, Sydney, Randolph, Norman, Lawrence, and Robert, and sisters Ellen Renn, Esther Chase, Margaret Tarr, Mary Dickerson, and Jean McFord.
