Dennis Michael Carr, Sr., age 81, of Delmar, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Born on November 16, 1944, in Salisbury, Maryland, Mike was a son of the late Wilbur and Lois Hastings Carr. He lived a life full of devotion, service, and love for his family and community.
A proud graduate of Delmar High School, Class of 1963, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduation. He dedicated over 26 years of his life to serving his country, which included time in the Army Reserves and the Army National Guard. This commitment to service exemplified his character and deep love for his nation.For over 40 years, Mike worked as a pipefitter at DuPont in Seaford, where he also participated in the fire brigade and embraced numerous other roles, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. In addition to his work, Mike's passion for the outdoors was evident in his many trips to Assateague Island, where he enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and beach outings with family. Mike was a history buff, especially when it involved WWI, WWII and Civil War history, and loved being a part of Civil War re-enactments for many years at Gettysburg and various other places.An ardent NASCAR fan, Mike cheered especially for Dale Earnhardt Sr. He and his wife, Nancy, shared many cherished evenings watching "Survivor" together, which became a tradition in their home.Mike was not only known for his work ethic and hobbies but also for his kind heart. He found joy in helping others and lived his life as the "hands and feet of Jesus," caring deeply for everyone he encountered.
He is survived by his beloved spouse of over 52 years, Nancy Louise (Phillips) Carr; his daughter, Laura Lynn Carr; his son, Thomas Jesse Carr (Subi Carr, his new daughter-in-law); cherished grandchildren, Kelsey Carr, Thomas Michael Carr, Tabatha Durbin, Bruce Roberts, Ashley Poole, Joshua Grove, Faith Grove Beach, Brandon Grove and Corey Grove; 12 great grandchildren; his sister, Serena Morgan (Robert); his brothers, William Carr (Betty) and Gerald Carr (Martha); and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Michael Carr, Jr. in 1980.
A funeral service for Mike will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place starting at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, Dennis will be laid to rest in Line Community Cemetery with military honors.
