Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Delois C. Stevens, who passed away peacefully at her home in Delmar, Delaware on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on October 10, 1936, in Washington, DC, Delois spent her life surrounded by family and friends who cherished her vibrant spirit. Delois dedicated many years of her life as a fiscal accounts clerk for a government book distributing company, where her attention to detail and unwavering work ethic shone. She adored indulging in crabs and strawberries and found joy in the thrill of the casino. She attended Holy Redeemer Church in Delmar, a place that held a special place in her heart. For 15 wonderful years, she and her husband embraced the lifestyle of "snowbirds," soaking up the sun in Homosassa, Florida, where they made countless cherished memories. An avid sports fan, Delois brought her vibrant spirit to every Baltimore Orioles and Washington Commanders game she watched. She knew how to cheer for her teams, and her enthusiasm was contagious. Above all, Delois was a devoted mother and grandmother who treasured the time spent with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Lees (Edward), and her son, William V. Stevens, III (Sharon), grandchildren, James Lees, Lauren Stevens, and Megan Stevens, sister, Kathleen Ruston, and several nieces and nephews, who all brought her immeasurable joy, and they will carry her love with them always. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Blanche Carroll; her husband of 60 years, William V. "Tom" Stevens, Jr.; and brothers, Walter "Jeep" Carroll and Clarence Carroll. To honor Delois's life and the beautiful moments we shared, a memorial service will be held at the Holy Redeemer Church, 501 E. Chestnut Street, Delmar, Maryland on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation starting at 10:00 AM. A luncheon for family and friends will be held in the church hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
