It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dawnell Katherine Lesocky, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and educator, who departed this world on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the age of 82, after a brief stay at Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on November 10, 1942, a daughter of the late James and Helen Finley. Dawn earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Maryland College Park, a steppingstone that led her to a fulfilling career as an educator. Her passion for teaching shone brightly during her years as an English teacher at James M Bennett High School. In a remarkable turn of fate, she ventured forth to establish the Woodridge School for Secretaries later known as Woodridge Business Institute, a pioneering endeavor she proudly operated until 1987. Following this chapter, she returned to her first love—teaching—at ECI, where she inspired students until her retirement in 2014. Dawn was not just an educator; she was a devoted animal lover, with a special place in her heart for her beloved dogs and the cherished rabbit she raised in later years. Her nurturing spirit and love for all living things reflected her gentle nature and the kindness she extended to everyone around her. Family and faith were the cornerstones of Dawn's life. She cherished her role as a mother to her sons, Curtis James Foskey and wife, Carolyn of Salisbury, MD and Tyler William Foskey of Bel Air, MD and shared a close bond with her sisters, Sandra Finley of Delray Beach, FL and Linda Lockner of Blackhawk, SD. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael Foskey, Brandon Foskey, Lauren Foskey, Addison Foskey and Olivia Foskey; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Lesocky. A celebration of Dawn's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Please visit www.shortfh.com to send online condolences to her family.
