David Edward West, 55, of Delmar, died suddenly at his chicken farm on Saturday, December 26, 2009. He was born May 9, 1954 in Salisbury, a son of the late Roy E. and Evelyn E. Shockley West. Since his youth, David had been a well-respected farmer and poultry man, a job he loved. For the past 35 years he had the pleasure of working alongside of his wife in their chicken houses. He cherished times spent with family, especially his grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart. He loved watching old western movies and war movies, had a fondness for cats and all animals and enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ruby Alice West; a son and daughter-in-law, David Allan and Angel West of Delmar; 5 grandchildren, David Allan West, Jr., Haley West, Mercedez Bell, Joey Bell and Tori Bell; and in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and many very close friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a graveside service at Melsons Cemetery, scheduled to begin at 1:30.
