Obituary

David R. Steelman Sr., a man of many talents and a wonderful father and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the age of 63. David was born on November 24, 1960, in Milford, Delaware, a son of the late James E. Steelman, Sr. and Clarabelle Joanne (Paugh) Thompson. David proudly served in the U.S. Army as a medic. A jack of all trades, David excelled in his role as an electrician handyman and was always quick to learn new skills. He owned a successful rental property business called Steelman Maintenance Services and had a passion for fixing things from an early age, showcased by his time working as a mechanic at Texaco in Seaford. He found joy in the simple things in life, whether it was cheering on his beloved Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Orioles, spending days fishing and crabbing, or firing up the grill for a BBQ. David had a great sense of humor and always saw the bright side of life. He loved buying scratch-off lottery tickets with the hope of hitting it big. His playful nature touched the lives of many, leaving fond memories in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Crystal Steelman (Lesley), sons, David Steelman (Kelly) and Ryan Charles Steelman; grandchildren, Brynlee, Brooks and Emma Steelman; his former wives, Ronda Mitchell and Ginger Steelman, brother, Dennis Crawford (Susan), sisters, Linda Steelman, Lucy Dutton (Layton), and Breta Still (Matthew), as well as several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Daniel Bowden (Ellen). He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Steelman; sister, Brenda Lynn Cox; and brothers, Daniel Adam Steelman and James E. Steelman, Jr. A funeral service to celebrate David's life will be held at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 6:00 pm, with a visitation starting at 5:00 pm.
