Delmar- David William Morris, 77, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury after a brief stay. He was born October 27, 1939 in Canandaigua, New York, a son of the late Rose and William Hamfeldt. David graduated from Delmar High school with the class of 1959. In school he was an outstanding athlete and excelled in football, baseball and wrestling. Following high school he proudly served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He retired in 1994 after 32 wonderful years with Giant Food in Salisbury, where he enjoyed helping customers in the produce section and gained many friends. His memberships included St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar, the Delmar VFW Post 8276, the American Legion Post 237 in Hebron and Laurel Post 19 and was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Salisbury. He loved the outdoors, wood-working, music and dancing, and most of all, he loved his family. He is survived by step-daughters, Susan Layton (Johnny) and Margot Lynch (Alex); grandchildren, Jonathan Layton, Brock Layton and Lucas Lynch; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Christian, Zachary, Somer Skye, Ethan, Bashia, Casey Robert and Piper; brothers, Charles Morris and Donald Morris (Peggy); a sister, Rosalie Overbaugh (Peter); and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and NJ cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Otwell Morris; and a grandson, Casey Alex Lynch. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Delmar VFW, Post 8276, 200 W. State Street, Delmar, MD 21875.
