Dale M.
Chipps
Feb 2, 1965 — Sep 17, 2026
Sykesville
It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Dale Chipps, age 61, who died unexpectedly in his sleep on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Dale was the beloved son of Delmas and Doris Chipps, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and a man whose larger-than-life presence will never be forgotten by those fortunate enough to know and love him.
For the past 21 years, Dale shared his life with his wife, Kim Simonson. Their years together were filled with love, laughter, family, adventures, challenges, and more memories than could ever fit on a page. Twenty-one years could never have been enough, but their love and the life they shared will remain a lasting part of Dale’s story.
Dale was a loving father to his son, John “Jack” Chipps, as well as Max and Griffen, and Charlie’s life. He was also an incredibly proud grandfather to Charlotte and Kinsley, daughters of Max and his wife, Courtney. His family meant everything to him.
Dale was especially proud of his connection to Towson and the lifelong friendships he made there. Football was his passion and a defining part of his life. His talent, toughness, and determination carried him from Towson to professional football, including time with the Washington Redskins. And if you knew Dale, you knew they would always be the Redskins to him—calling them the Commanders was simply not up for discussion.
The teammates, friendships, stories, and memories he gathered along the way remained a cherished part of his life. His Towson family, in particular, always held a very special place in his heart. Coach Albert was more than Dale’s coach; he was also a mentor who helped guide and shape him during an important chapter of his life. Dale carried that influence and respect with him long after his playing days were over.
Dale was also a major prankster, always ready to stir up a little trouble and keep the people around him laughing. Dan Ricker and Bob Stillwell knew all about it and undoubtedly shared more than a few stories about Dale’s antics. His sense of humor, mischievous spirit, and ability to turn an ordinary moment into a memorable one were unmistakably Dale.
After football, Dale reinvented himself many times throughout his life. His work history included sales, mortgages, and the Electrical Union, and in every new chapter, he brought the same toughness, determination, and drive. He was always determined to excel in anything he did. Failure was never an option. Dale faced every challenge head-on and refused to give up, no matter how difficult the road became.
Dale was strong, determined, loyal, funny, and unmistakably himself. He was the toughest guy, and he could fill a room with his presence. He certainly wasn’t afraid to share his opinion. If Dale loved you, you knew it. And if Dale had a story to tell, chances are you were going to hear the whole thing.
Since his passing, the outpouring of love, photographs, stories, and memories from friends, teammates, family, and especially his Towson community has been overwhelming. It has also been a beautiful reminder of just how many lives Dale touched.
There are some people who simply cannot be replaced. Dale was one of them.
He will be remembered for his voice, his stories, his laughter, his strength, his stubbornness, his determination, his pranks, and the unmistakable presence he brought to every room. Dale Chipps was truly one of a kind. He will be loved, remembered, talked about, laughed about, and missed beyond words.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Interment will follow at Pittsville Cemetery. Pastor David Bennett will officiate.
