Cora W. Bennett, age 88, of Mardela Springs, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born February 26, 1920 in Mardela Springs, a daughter of the late Chester A. Wilson and Emma (Bennett) Wilson. Mrs. Bennett was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs and a long time member of the Double Mills Homemaker Club. She was a loving homemaker who enjoyed working outdoors and was an excellent cook. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Cooper and her husband, Jim of Delmar and Phyllis Downing and her husband, David of Laurel; four grandchildren, Aaron Cooper and his wife Melanie, of Delmar, Ashley Cooper and his wife Bekah of Baton Rouge, LA, Julie Mann and her husband, Justin of York, PA and Christina Downing of Laurel; three great grandchildren, Kaley, Garrett and Ethan; and a sister-in-law, Rebecca Wilson of Hebron, MD. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lucien Bennett, who passed in 1987, and six brothers and sisters, Pauline Marvel, Humphrey Wilson, Arthur Wilson, Mary Ellis, Irene Wilson and Jean Joseph. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar and on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow the service at Mardela Memorial Cemetery.
