Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Constance Lee Matthews of Seaford, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted community member, who left this world peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the age of 75. She was born on October 9, 1949, in Queens, NY, and grew up in Elsmere, DE where her family-owned Griffith's Funeral Home. Life then brought her to Seaford, Delaware, where she has resided the past several years. She was the daughter of the late Rita (Horvath) and Russell Griffith. Connie was a dedicated social worker, known for her unwavering commitment to helping others and making a positive impact in her community. Her compassionate spirit extended beyond her profession; she had a great love for animals and often opened her heart and home to those in need. Family was of utmost importance to Connie, and she took pride in her role as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Bobby) Schmitt; daughter, Betty Anne Snider; three grandchildren, Amber (Jake) Matthews, Robert Snider III, and Caine (Jenna) Robinson-Snider; two great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. Each had the privilege of experiencing her warmth, kindness, and deep love firsthand. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, William Russell and Sharon Lynn Matthews. A faithful member of the Stein Highway Church of God, Connie's faith guided her throughout her life. She found strength and solace in her community, forming lasting friendships that enriched her journey. A celebration of Connie's life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stein Highway Church of God, 425 E. Stein Highway, Seaford, Delaware. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring her extraordinary legacy and the profound love she shared during her time with us. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Connie to your local no-kill animal rescue, where her spirit of service and love will continue to inspire.
