Clara B. West, 94, of Delmar, died Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born December 9, 1914 in Powellville, Maryland, a daughter of the late Charles G. and Ella Mae Phillips Shockley. Clara was raised to appreciate hard work and family and worked for many years as a seamstress at the Parsonsburg Shirt Factory. Her priority was raising her family, and as a wonderful homemaker she always put the needs of her family before hers. Even up through her nineties, she enjoyed quilting and embroidery, had a love for bluegrass and country music and truly loved everything about the Christmas Season. She is survived by two daughters, Deanna Ethel Sartin and Janice Lee Boyce and her husband, Joe, all of Delmar; a son, Jack Lee West and his wife, Joanne of Lake Worth, Florida; eight beloved grandchildren, Lora Parker, Robin West, Jack West, Jr., Lloyd Long, III, Faith Smith, Marian Smith, Beverly Hawley and Patrick Phillips; many beloved great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Jacob West, who passed in 1997; a son, Marion David West; a brother, Charles Lestle Shockley; three sisters, Rosa Elizabeth Shockley Tingle, Evelyn Eugene Shockley West and Helen Mae Dutton Parker; and a grandson, John West. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, followed by a funeral service, which begins at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the services at Melsons Cemetery in Delmar.
