Christine Lewis Wells, age 90, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed from this world on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. Born on December 24, 1934, in Salisbury, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Preston and Irma Frances Hales Lewis, who died when she was very young. She was raised by her grandmother; the late Allie Carter Hales. Christine spent her life rooted in love, family, and community. Christine was a dedicated cashier and deli clerk in the grocery store industry, where her warm smile and kind demeanor touched the lives of many customers. Her greatest joy, however, came from her family. In her earlier years, she cherished the moments spent caring for her grandchildren, creating lifelong memories filled with laughter and love. Known affectionately for her delightful culinary creations, Christine's sweet pepper relish, sweet potato biscuits, and turnip greens were staples at family gatherings, where she enjoyed cooking and feeding her loved ones. These dishes were more than just food; they were a reflection of the nurturing spirit she embodied. Her green thumb flourished in the yard and garden until the passing of her beloved husband, Ralph, in 2001, a loss that she bore with grace and strength. She was a long-time member of Spence Baptist Church in Snow Hill, where she enjoyed helping in the kitchen or wherever she was needed. Christine is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Hearn and husband, Jim; her son, Ralph A. Wells and wife, Billie Dee; grandchildren, Brad Fleming (Kim), Adam Fleming (Stephanie), Justin Jump (fiancé, Sara), Dennis Wells (Kachina), Keith Wells, Rodney Wells (Michelle), Corey Wells (fiancé, Ashley), Katelyn Wells, Angel Wells McDorman and Ashley Wells; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by daughters-in-law, Christine Wells and Michelle Wells. In addition to her parents and grandmother who raised her, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband. Ralph James Wells, who passed in 2001; and sons, Dennis M. Wells and Bobby Wells. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Spence Baptist Church in Snow Hill, where a visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00. Interment will follow at Spence Baptist Cemetery, where her grandsons will serve as casket bearers.
