Charles William Cordrey, 99, a lifelong resident of Delmar, passed away peacefully at the Seaford Center on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Charles was born on February 13, 1918 in Delmar, one of two children born to the late Arthur and Nellie (Kenney) Cordrey. He graduated from Delmar High School then secured a job at the newly opened DuPont Co. in Seaford where he worked until his retirement. He married Norma Jane Adkins and they had two sons, Brian and Jeffrey. Norma Jane predecased him in 2007. Charles had many interests- number 1 on his list was golf, which he played into his 90's. He also loved photography and left his family with many beautiful pictures to treasure. One of his favorites made the cover of the Delaware Small Wonders calendar of 1984. Fishing was also a favorite passion, as typical of many Eastern Shore natives. Charles had a deep religious faith and read his bible daily. He was a very active member over all the years at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar. He is survived by sons, Brian Cordrey of Delmar and Jeffrey Cordrey and wife, Susan of Seaford; and a host of friends from DuPont and his St. Stephen's family. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Beach. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service which begins at 2:00. The Reverend Phyllis Walton will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
