Charles F. Townsend, Sr., 66, of Delmar, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born on July 26, 1948 in Salisbury, a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Townsend. Charles was a former member of the Salisbury Baptist Temple. In his early years, he enjoyed farming. He then went to work as a mechanic for Harvey Truck Repair in Delmar, where he retired. His hobbies include hunting and fishing. Charles will be remembered for being a kind and caring man. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Townsend of Delmar; a son, Charles F. "Chuck" Townsend, Jr.; step-children, Phillip Roberts (Doris), Tommy Roberts (Veronica), Sue Wax (Bruce), Robert Sutton (Sue), and Tracy Wilkinson (Robert); siblings, Edward Townsend (Phyllis), Cora Everett (Merle), John Townsend (Tammy), Sally Crouch (Wade), Sylvia Jean Wootten (John), and Michael "Mike" Townsend, Sr. (Sue); two grandchildren, Amanda and Carly; step-grandchildren, Jesse, Zack, Tina, Angela, Christina, Rick, Kim, Michael, Christopher, Heidi, Robert, Ryan, and Matthew; 14 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his previous wife, Doris Townsend, and a step-grandson, Danny. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Reverend Oren Perdue will officiate. Entombment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
