Obituary

Delmar- Charles Everett Rayne, 85, of Delmar, passed away peacefully at Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. He was born January 1, 1934 in Hebron, a son of the late Everett Sylvester Rayne and Mary Ellen Rayne Adkins. At a young age Charlie joined the Maryland National Guard and proudly served his country for 23 years with the Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant. He worked at DuPont in Seaford for 32 years and retired as a well-loved, highly respected supervisor. After retirement he went to work at Sears in Seaford and for some time in Florida, a job he truly enjoyed. He was a skilled woodworker, painter and was excellent working with stained glass and was a collector of lighthouses. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and for his wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Barbara Lee (Collins) Rayne; a son, Michael C. Rayne (Florence) of Salisbury; a daughter, Dori Mowbray (Kenny) of Delmar; grandchildren, Anna, Stephanie, Cindy, Brinkley and Kori; great-grandchildren, Leah, Alissa, Samantha, Lisa, Zachary, Lindsey and Andrew; and a great-great grandson, Gideon. He is also survived by a son-law, David Travis; a sister, Virginia Fiori (Edward); and nieces, Judy, Darla and Sharon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan; a daughter, Robin Travis; and a son, David Rayne. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Cemetery Park in Delmar. The Reverend Phyllis Walton will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Delmar Fire Department, P.O. Box 143, Delmar, DE 19940. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
