Obituary

Charles E. Hodgson, 84, of Laurel, Delaware passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Maryland. He was born on November 11, 1938 in Ashe County, North Carolina, a son of the late Vergie Pearl Farmer and Piper W. Hodgson. Charlie worked as a truck driver for Anchor Motor Freight in Baltimore after over 30 years of service. After retirement, he went on to work for the Town of Ocean City for 23 years as a seasonal bus driver. He began this job in April 2001 and his last day was October 20, 2023. He attended Delmar Christian Center and believed in supporting organizations that helped others, especially Believe in Tomorrow, and the local fire department. In the mornings, he could be found in the Delmar McDonald's with the local group of folks who gather to chat and catch up on current events. He is survived by his daughters, Karen Hooper (Aaron) of Mardela Springs, Maryland and Amy Virginia Haynes (James E. Smith) of Laurel, Delaware; grandchildren, Mackenzie Hodgson, Nathan Hooper (Cassie), Joshua Smith, and Katelyn Smith; brothers-in-law, Terry Crisler (Susan) and Tommy Crisler; a special friend, Jhonsua Jimenez; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Crisler Hodgson; and a brother, Jordan Jerald Hodgson. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at Delmar Christian Center, 107 E. State Street, Delmar, Delaware, followed by a memorial service which begins at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by visiting www.stjude.org/donate. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
