It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chandrawati Beharry, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on January 8, 1939, in Georgetown, Guyana, Chandrawati brought warmth and joy to everyone she encountered, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.
Chan, as she was fondly known, was a dedicated homemaker and mother and a strong pillar of her family. Her life was defined by her unwavering commitment to nurturing her loved ones. She is survived by her cherished children: Sandra Singh (Mohan), Chandra Jumarally (Faizul), Lloyd Beharry (Geeta), and Terry Beharry. Her grandchildren-Rebecca Singh-Shaw (Kashi), Christopher Singh (Samantha), Brian Singh, Ameena Jumarally, Aleah Jumarally, Akash Beharry, and Vikash Beharry-along with her great-grandchildren, Mia Jumarally, Adelina Singh, and Oliver Singh, will carry forward her spirit of kindness and resilience. She is also survived by sisters, Sabo Rampersaud and Pran Raghunandan; brothers, Arjun Singh and Bemo Singh; and many nieces, nephews and treasured friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, Mahase and Sukraki Singh; her beloved husband, Ramkissoon Beharry; a daughter, Pamela Beharry; and brothers, Neal, Basdeo, Bharat and Komal.
In her garden, she found solace and joy, cultivating the best peppers, eggplant, squash, and okra, reflecting her hardworking nature and passion for nurturing life. Compassionate, full of joy, strong, hard working and deeply devoted to family and friends, Chan brought warmth and kindness to the people around her. She had a loving spirit that made others feel cared for and supported. remembered fondly. Her strength and dedication were reflected in everything she did, and she always worked to provide love, comfort and support to those she cherished.Chandrawati's family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable life. Chan also found joy in traveling and spending time with family, allowing her to create special memories with loved ones
A Hindu service for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.at Short Funeral Home of Delmar, followed by a visitation. The family invites all whose lives were touched by Chandrawati to join them in celebrating her beautiful legacy and the joy she brought to their lives.
Chandrawati Beharry will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
