Carolyn Walston, 77, of Delmar, DE passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 at her home, with her family by her side. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was born in Cambridge, MD, on January 12, 1945 to her late parents Everett W. Owens and Grace C. Church Owens. She graduated from Wicomico High School, class of 1963 and then was married to John C Walston, Jr for 25 years and shared 2 children, Kimberly and Michael. She loved arts and crafts and started a side business, Carolyn's Corner, while raising her children. She was passionate about her children and their friend's activities and was always doing for others. She is also an avid sports lover of hockey, college basketball, and baseball. She would take a bus to New York to see plays and to Baltimore to see the Orioles. She also was a season ticket holder at the Delmarva Shorebirds. She loved attending musicals and plays when they were local as well. She had a passion for ice hockey her whole life and enjoyed watching the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks. She also would travel to Harrington to watch the Salisbury State University hockey team. She also loved Christmas and would often work for other coworkers to allow them to have time off with their children on that day. In the late 80's, after her children were grown, she then followed her dream of helping others and became a firefighter/ paramedic. She went back to school and started volunteering at Delmar Fire Department before taking a Full Time job there. Carolyn's love for the beach and Ocean City, brought her an opportunity to work at the Ocean City Fire Department. She served the Delmar community for 23 years and Ocean City for 25 years, while working in the Emergency Department at Atlantic General Hospital for almost 26 years, until her passing. She loved her family, friends and coworkers, that she also treated like family and they loved her too. Ocean City Firefighters Association said it best. "Friends like Carolyn are rare. She worked hard in life, loved her family and always gave to others. She exemplified there is more blessing to give than to receive." She never forgot a birthday and you could expect a card, call or cake from her. She touched so many in her time here and left a legacy for those who knew her of how to love and make someone feel special. Carolyn is survived by her children Kimberly Barker (Jeff) of Huntley, IL and Michael Walston (Kris) of Eden, MD, six grandchildren Brittany LeCates, Jacob, Christopher and Braelyn Barker, Brad Walston, Ryan Walston and a great grandson, Daxon Barnes. She is also survived by her brother Everett William "Bill" Owens (Janet) of Berlin, MD and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother George F. Owens (2016). A celebration of life will be held Sunday March 27, 2022 at 2 pm at Delmar Fire Department, Delmar, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Delmar Fire Department or IAFF Local 4269, Ocean City Career Firefighter Paramedics Association.
